Swimming Timetable 2025/2026

During the academic year, the boys will get the opportunity to use Langford Swimming Pool during their Games lessons. Both the National Curriculum and the Jersey Curriculum stipulate that all children leaving Year 6 must be able to swim 25m in a variety of strokes. With boys living on an island, we believe that learning to swim is a vital aspect of the child’s development. We encourage the boys to take advantage of the swimming provision here at VCP and should the child be unable to swim, a note is required if they are unable to take a swimming lesson. If they miss more than one week, a doctor’s note will be required. The aim of the swimming lessons is to help children become water confident and to have fun in the water. We hope to give them some guidance with the major strokes of front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke. At the end of the term, the House Swim Galas take place where the boys will be able to demonstrate their abilities in a fun environment. Parents are welcome to come and support their son during this event. Year 3s will also swim in the Spring for the first half-term during their PE lessons, so they will get an extra 6 lessons during that term. We would recommend that pupils have had some experience in the water with swim lessons wherever possible.

Whenever a child has a swimming lesson, they will come to school in their school tracksuit with their House polo shirt PE kit. They will also wear their black shorts or black swimming trunks underneath. This helps maximise the time they get in the water! The boys will need to bring their swimming bag with underwear, towel and swimming cap (essential). Goggles are recommended.

Please continue to bring your football boot bag with boots and shin pads as the projected itinerary is subject to change.
