What is your job title?

Admissions Registrar

Brief description of what your job involves?

Coordinating and processing applications to the College for students in Years 7 through to 11. Liaising with prospective parents and applicants’ current schools, regarding entry requirements and assessments. Answering questions about bursaries and coordinating applications. Maintaining student records, where appropriate. At the end of a student’s academic life at Victoria College - processing any relevant paperwork for onward transfers.

Short description of where you were previously working?

I worked for a small, locally-owned intellectual property firm, where I was responsible for all finance and personnel matters for 18 years. As with any small business, I also dabbled in other areas, such as facilities management, company secretarial and data protection! During my latter years there, I was even Managing Director.

Why did you choose Victoria College?

As an ex-Jersey College for Girls student, I have “grown up” with Victoria College on my radar. I know lots of Old Victorians and some current students, the majority of whom seem to have a deep-rooted loyalty for the College. I was looking for a change of direction, after being at my previous role in the private sector for 18 years and thought “why not?”. I had heard lots of positive things about the new Senior Leadership Team and thought that the role sounded interesting and one that would involve interaction with a variety of different people.

Best thing about working at Victoria College so far?

The best things - genuinely, I have met some of the nicest and most hard-working people, all of whom seem to have a real passion for the College and its students. The Remembrance Day Assembly was extremely moving and every single boy was an absolute credit to the College.

Interesting/fun fact about yourself?

Oh dear….. Ummm, I can’t think of anything “interesting” or “fun”…. I went to Val Plaisant Infant School (which no longer exists) and then to Vauxhall School Primary School, which subsequently merged with Halkett Place Primary School to form Rouge Bouillon Primary School, before joining Jersey College for Girls In Year 7 (when it was located in the old building in La Pouquelaye) – I am showing my age!

I did a bungee jump and skydive in New Zealand (when I was MUCH younger!) and found myself on a boat trip in Australia with the touring English Rugby Team in the 1990s – I didn’t have a clue who any of them were (Mike Catt?)….!

Tell us about your hobbies

I enjoy being active, which mainly involves strength training and exploring the cliff paths. I completed the Island Walk for the first time this year and hope to complete both the Jersey and Guernsey Island Walks next year….

Why did you choose Victoria College?

Victoria College holds a strong reputation as a school which develops well-rounded young men and provides fantastic opportunities for pupils both academically and pastorally as well as enriching education through co-curricular activities. As a parent I saw first-hand the ethos of the school and wanted to work in such a positive environment.

Best thing about working at Victoria College so far?

As business is only taught at Sixth Form at present, I teach a limited number of classes but see each one every day. This has enabled me to get to know the students well and develop a positive rapport with them very quickly. The welcome of the staff has been fantastic, and I have settled into the role very quickly.

Interesting/fun fact about yourself?

As a keen golfer, I achieved my first and only ever hole-in-one aged 13. I haven't replicated it since.

Tell us about your hobbies
