Movember: More Than Just a Moustache.

It’s about starting conversations that matter.

This morning, our Year 12 students were joined by Headteacher, Dr Hughes, for an important and thought-provoking talk to launch our Movember campaign, focusing on men’s mental and physical health.

The message was clear: Know thyself.

He explored the differences in life expectancy between men and women, the pressures and expectations surrounding masculinity, and how gender stereotypes can shape our attitudes, influence our behaviour and affect the way we communicate and seek support.

He discussed why men can often find it difficult to ask for help, the importance of challenging traditional ideas of what it means to be a man, and the need to create a culture, where talking openly about our health is seen as a strength, not a weakness.

He also looked at the importance of taking responsibility for our physical health, from understanding prostate cancer to recognising the signs of testicular cancer. Knowing your body, knowing what to look out for and getting checked can make a life-saving difference.

We need to be better at having these conversations, challenging outdated stereotypes and supporting one another.

Movember is about so much more than growing a moustache. It’s about breaking down barriers, raising awareness and opening up conversations that could save lives.

A huge thank you to Dr Hughes for delivering such an important message to our Year 12s this morning.

Know yourself. Own it. Talk about it.

On Friday 27 November, the whole school will come together for a dedicated fundraising day. Expect to see moustaches (both real and fake!) everywhere, and to hear meaningful conversations about how we can all support our young men to stay safe, healthy, and happy.

Help us raise as much money as possible for this important cause by donating here.

Thank you!
