Years 7-9, An Introduction to PSHE at Victoria College and How to Support at Home (Weekly Updates)
We are extremely proud of our PSHE programme at Victoria College! PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) education is the backbone of excellent safeguarding, empowering young people to make good choices to improve their mental and physical health, build social skills, foster positive relationships, and prepare for future careers and financial independence. It equips young people with the knowledge and skills to navigate life safely, make informed decisions, and become responsible members of society.
In Years 7, 8, 9 and 11, students enjoy a distinct one hour PSHE lesson taught by experienced members of staff including those in the Leadership Group. In Year 10, we currently operate drop-down events to ensure our pupils have access to the information and strategies they need to stay safe in their ever-changing world.
We strive to support you, our parent body, in expanding the discussions taking place in the classroom at home. To that end, we invite you, as a family, to enjoy a weekly dinner discussion around the supper table. If these discussions prompt further topics, please do get in touch with our Head of PSHE, Mrs Silver (g.silver@vcj.sch.je) so we can share!
This term, students will be focusing on:
Year 7: First Aid
Year 8: Relationships and Sex
Year 9: Drugs and Alcohol
This week, to start the term, the following topics have been the centre of discussion in PSHE lessons:
Year 7 -What can you do to help someone having an allergic reaction?
Year 8 - Earlier in the year, we focussed on Mental Health: what do you understand this to mean? What can you do to keep mentally healthy, and how might you recognise if someone was struggling?
Year 9 - Earlier in the year, we focussed on Mental Health: what do you understand this to mean? What can you do to keep mentally healthy, and how might you recognise if someone was struggling?

Year 10, PSHE Dinner Table Discussions
Thank you to parents of students in Year 10 who have asked for dinner table discussion topics! Year 10 will begin their PSHE sessions this academic year so, with this in mind, their discussion prompts are linked to the topics they will cover in due course: relationships and sex education, citizenship, drugs and alcohol education and mental health strategies. We hope these prove interesting and afford meaningful opportunities for you to build on our discussions in lesson time!
The topic for the next week is: What do you understand about the term consent and its importance in relationships?
