Victoria College Under 16 Rugby XV win the 2018 Lord Jersey Cup

Victoria College's U16 rugby team retained the Lord Jersey Cup after a dramatic finish in the final against Les Quennevais.  College qualified for the final by beating a combined Guernsey School side 19-12, with Ben Hamilton scoring a hat-trick of tries.  The final started badly with Les Quennevais scoring in the first minute to lead 5-0.  From there an outstanding performance from Jonty Baily at Fly-half started the recovery as College scored three tries to lead 19-5 and look in total control.  However, on the verge of half time Les Quennevais put together a decent move to score under the posts and make it 19-12 at half-time.

The first score of the second half was always going to be crucial and Les Quennevais got it with a sweeping move into the corner.  That made the score 19-17, after which College regained control of the match and camped for most of the half in the opposition territory.  However, a couple of glorious chances went begging before Les Quennevais cleared their lines.  Les Quennevais then scored under the post to lead 22-19 which just three minutes to go.

A grandstand finished followed as College kicked a penalty to touch on the Les Quennevais 22 for one last attack as the clock ran down.  The ball went wide and Henry Dawson found space to sprint to the line and score the crucial final points, securing the trophy 24-22.
