Music

This department aims to make music enjoyable for every pupil at our school. At Victoria College we see music as an important aspect of the social, spiritual, moral and cultural development of our students. We believe music can have a major positive impact on the lives of children and we do everything we can to ensure that happens here.

We provide a rich and varied programme of study and activities, and aim to foster the feeling that music is for everyone, whatever their experience or level.  Music is taught at Key Stage 3 through to A level in our specially designed two-storey building.  We have two teaching rooms for classroom music, one of which is a specialist computer suite containing 22 computers operating theSibeliusscore-writing programme. There is also a smaller seminar room, four practice rooms and a large room set up for band rehearsals.

In Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) each class receives one music lesson per week. At GCSE we follow the Edexcel GCSE Music syllabus. At Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form - Years 12 and 13) music teaching is shared with Jersey College for Girls and follows the OCR syllabus. Several former students have gone on to study for a music degree at university or music college after leaving Victoria College.
