Our Values

 During the academic year 2015/2016, the schools have worked together to create a single 'mission statement'. VCP still maintains four core values that are embedded in practice and outlined below.

Aims of The School

Our Mission Statement:

Victoria College and Preparatory School aims to create well-rounded, resilient young men who have the skills, attitudes and values to be successful individuals who make a positive contribution to society.

Our Aims are:

  • Be a selective school, accessible to boys from all walks of life;
  • Create academic and co-curricular opportunities for all students to fulfil their highest potential;
  • Nurture a positive and passionate attitude to learning;
  • Foster an inclusive culture based on personal and social responsibility including spiritual sensitivities;
  • Maintain a safe, happy and caring environment based on mutual respect and tolerance.

 In line with the school motto 'Amat Victoria Curam', VCP seeks to develop a genuine love of learning in its pupils.    All aspects of VCP life offer a stimulating and caring environment. Traditional values are maintained alongside a modern approach to teaching and learning.  VCP offers a broad and balanced curriculum, delivering all the requirements of the Jersey Curriculum, whilst emphasising the cultivation of life skills, to ensure that students gain a true sense of self.  Creative arts, sport and a vast array of extra-curricular activities contribute to a well-rounded education. High academic standards form a firm foundation for continuing success at VCJ.  Our open-door policy encourages parents to become involved in every aspect of school life. Team-work is high on the agenda.

VCP's Core Values which support successful learning, are fostered throughout the time a pupil spends at VCP and are as follows:

Aspire - to set your standards high and not be content with giving less than your best whether it be in terms of academic work, sport, creative aspects of school life or behaviour.

Be Respectful - to value others and their beliefs and values even when they are different from our own, and treat all with courtesy.  To value the traditions and rules of the school and wider community.  To have respect for yourself and to value your own ideas and opinions.

Be Resourceful - to manage one's own equipment and time effectively To apply knowledge, gained previously, when faced with a challenge.  To be able to work effectively with others, to plan ahead and to think strategically.  To think for yourself first before having a go or asking for help, using others to guide you when necessary.

Be Resilient- to have the tenacity to see a challenge through and to persevere, even when it is tough.  To be prepared to have a go, learn from mistakes and not give up until you have achieved what you set out to achieve.

At VCP the aim is to encourage these attributes and create opportunities for them to be developed.  Pupils, with these core values firmly embedded, will continue to be successful, adaptable and thoughtful young men throughout their secondary education and in later life.
