All Years, World Book Day - Can You Help Drive a Love of Reading?
Did you know that the number of people reading for pleasure is at an all time low in the UK, especially amongst boys and men? Yet we know from extensive research that there are huge benefits for boys and young men when they read, including:
-Improved academic outcomes
-Healthier lifestyles
-Better mental health
-Higher self-esteem
Help us buck this trend at Victoria College, by being a reading role model.
We are asking for any male member of your family to send in a picture of him reading. Please also recommend a great read for students and let us know what you love about the book. We will share these with students in school. If you are happy for your image and/or message to be used on social media too, please also give us permission for this when you send the image in. Please send your submissions to Mrs Falla (e.falla@vcj.sch.je)
Words shape futures. Many thanks for helping us rekindle a love of reading!

Years 7-9, An Introduction to PSHE at Victoria College and How to Support at Home (Weekly Updates)
We are extremely proud of our PSHE programme at Victoria College! PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) education is the backbone of excellent safeguarding, empowering young people to make good choices to improve their mental and physical health, build social skills, foster positive relationships, and prepare for future careers and financial independence. It equips young people with the knowledge and skills to navigate life safely, make informed decisions, and become responsible members of society.
In Years 7, 8, 9 and 11, students enjoy a distinct one hour PSHE lesson taught by experienced members of staff including those in the Leadership Group. In Year 10, we currently operate drop-down events to ensure our pupils have access to the information and strategies they need to stay safe in their ever-changing world.
We strive to support you, our parent body, in expanding the discussions taking place in the classroom at home. To that end, we invite you, as a family, to enjoy a weekly dinner discussion around the supper table. If these discussions prompt further topics, please do get in touch with our Head of PSHE, Mrs Silver (g.silver@vcj.sch.je) so we can share!
This term, students will be focusing on:
Year 7: 1) Mental Health led by Sixth Form Peer Educators and 2) Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner sessions - how to protect personal information online
Year 8: Physical Health
Year 9: Careers
This week, the following topics have been the centre of discussion in PSHE lessons:
Year 7 - What is good mental health? What is a mental health problem? How good were your Y12 teachers?!
Year 8 - Did you enjoy the Government of Jersey's 'Building a Safer Community Day?' What did you learn?

Year 10, PSHE Dinner Table Discussions
Thank you to parents of students in Year 10 who have asked for dinner table discussion topics! Year 10 will begin their PSHE sessions this academic year so, with this in mind, their discussion prompts are linked to the topics they will cover in due course: relationships and sex education, citizenship, drugs and alcohol education and mental health strategies. We hope these prove interesting and afford meaningful opportunities for you to build on our discussions in lesson time!
The topic this week is: What do you value and why?

Year 11, Examinations Timetable
Please find attached the GCSE Summer 2026 examination timetable. This is an overarching timetable for all GCSE candidates and is intended to provide an early overview of the upcoming exam period.
When reviewing the timetable, you may notice what appears to be an examination clash. Please do not be concerned. All student entries will be reviewed carefully by the Examinations Office in line with JCQ regulations.
Every student will receive a bespoke timetable in due course, which will be sent directly to their school email address. Where a genuine clash exists, this will be resolved and reflected in the individual timetable once finalised. We appreciate your patience while this process is completed.
It is also worth noting that in some subjects — particularly Religious Studies and certain Language qualifications — the timetable may appear to show a clash. In many cases, this is because the qualification consists of two papers sat back-to-back within the same session, rather than a true clash.
At this stage, no action is required from parents or students.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support as we prepare for the summer examination series.
