All Years, PSHE Update - A Half‑Term of Thoughtful, Future‑Ready Learning
This half‑term has been another exciting one in PSHE, with our students engaging in some of the most relevant and forward‑thinking learning we’ve ever delivered. Our focus on digital literacy and online wellbeing has sparked thoughtful discussions, impressive critical thinking, and a real sense of maturity across the year groups.
One of the standout themes has been our work on deepfakes and online harms. Students explored how rapidly evolving technology can blur the lines between truth and fabrication, and why developing a critical eye is now an essential life skill. The BBC came in to film Year 11 work on this and interviewed students in KS3 and 4 to gauge their thoughts on how Jersey is responding to these issues. Pupils analysed real-world examples and reflected on the impact mis- and disinformation can have on individuals, communities, and society. Their ability to question, challenge, and evaluate what they see online has been genuinely impressive.
We were also delighted to collaborate once again with our neighbouring girls’ school, JCG, in joint PSHE sessions, and this week some of our sixth formers accompanied Mrs Silver to the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) event at JCG to add their support to the amazing work our young people are doing. These joint projects give students the chance to share perspectives, debate ethical dilemmas, and work together on practical strategies for staying safe and responsible online citizens. The maturity and respect they showed throughout the sessions were a credit to both schools.
Overall, it has been a half‑term full of curiosity, collaboration, and meaningful learning. We’re incredibly proud of the way students have engaged with complex issues and demonstrated such thoughtful awareness of the digital world they navigate every day. Next term will begin with a morning off timetable for Year 8, who will, on 26 February, be working with agencies on island to explore how to keep our communities safe. We welcome your feedback and input into our growing curriculum as we move forwards!

Years 7-9, An Introduction to PSHE at Victoria College and How to Support at Home (Weekly Updates)
We are extremely proud of our PSHE programme at Victoria College! PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) education is the backbone of excellent safeguarding, empowering young people to make good choices to improve their mental and physical health, build social skills, foster positive relationships, and prepare for future careers and financial independence. It equips young people with the knowledge and skills to navigate life safely, make informed decisions, and become responsible members of society.
In Years 7, 8, 9 and 11, students enjoy a distinct one hour PSHE lesson taught by experienced members of staff including those in the Leadership Group. In Year 10, we currently operate drop-down events to ensure our pupils have access to the information and strategies they need to stay safe in their ever-changing world.
We strive to support you, our parent body, in expanding the discussions taking place in the classroom at home. To that end, we invite you, as a family, to enjoy a weekly dinner discussion around the supper table. If these discussions prompt further topics, please do get in touch with our Head of PSHE, Mrs Silver (g.silver@vcj.sch.je) so we can share!
This term, students will be focusing on:
Year 7: First Aid
Year 8: Relationships and Sex
Year 9: Drugs and Alcohol
This week, the following topics have been the centre of discussion in PSHE lessons:
Year 7 - How would you go about helping someone if they were choking?
Year 8 - What assumptions do people sometimes make in relationships? Why can this be a problem?
Year 9 - How does alcohol affect the brain and the body? What are the dangers of binge drinking?
