All Years, Free Webinar on Tech Use - Tuesday 27 January

Live Parent Webinar: How You Can Make Technology an Ally (& Not the Enemy!) - Tuesday 27th January 6:00-7:00pm (GMT)

Teachers are all too aware of the impact that technology addiction can have on the quantity - and quality – of a student’s revision.

But what can be done to limit screen time outside of the classroom, where the majority of independent study takes place?

This upcoming webinar from Elevate Education shows parents how they can help their child to remove distractions with the help of app blockers, improving focus and reducing procrastination.

Attendees of the last webinar on technology and focus came away with relevant, practical advice that could be used that evening:

‘I learned so much and it felt so on-point with my teenage son. It also helped me see that some of the things I am already doing are on the right track.’

‘Informative, with practical examples and real-life applications. Simple and easy to remember.’

Please register here.

Full Swing Event - Jersey Opera House, this weekend!

One of our Old Victorians, Jonny Labey, is performing in a new, family-friendly show called Full Swing, playing at the Jersey Opera House this weekend (23–24 January). It’s an uplifting celebration of dance, music and storytelling, led by a predominantly male West End cast, and created with one clear hope: that a young boy in the audience might feel seen, understood, and encouraged to follow what lights him up.

If your son is an aspiring actor or dancer and wants to see the show, you can book with 20% off using code: JLAB26FSWING. Jonny told us that, "After more than ten years working professionally in acting and dance including the West End and on screen, I felt compelled to reflect on the journey that brought me here, particularly as a boy who grew up loving dance and theatre without many visible role models."

Years 7-9, An Introduction to PSHE at Victoria College and How to Support at Home (Weekly Updates)

We are extremely proud of our PSHE programme at Victoria College! PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) education is the backbone of excellent safeguarding, empowering young people to make good choices to improve their mental and physical health, build social skills, foster positive relationships, and prepare for future careers and financial independence. It equips young people with the knowledge and skills to navigate life safely, make informed decisions, and become responsible members of society.

In Years 7, 8, 9 and 11, students enjoy a distinct one hour PSHE lesson taught by experienced members of staff including those in the Leadership Group. In Year 10, we currently operate drop-down events to ensure our pupils have access to the information and strategies they need to stay safe in their ever-changing world.

We strive to support you, our parent body, in expanding the discussions taking place in the classroom at home. To that end, we invite you, as a family, to enjoy a weekly dinner discussion around the supper table. If these discussions prompt further topics, please do get in touch with our Head of PSHE, Mrs Silver (g.silver@vcj.sch.je) so we can share!

This term, students will be focusing on:

Year 7: First Aid

Year 8: Relationships and Sex

Year 9: Drugs and Alcohol

This week, the following topics have been the centre of discussion in PSHE lessons:

Year 7 - Can you remember how to conduct your Primary Survey? Can you find someone to let you practice putting them into the recovery position?

Year 8 - What do you think is important in a healthy relationship? Which relationship red flags can you remember?

Year 9 - Did the statistics about the falling use of drugs and alcohol use amongst young people surprise you? What can you remember about them?

Year 7-11, 5-Week English Course for Parents

This initiative is designed for parents of children aged 8-16, providing an opportunity to improve English language skills through topics that directly impact their children's lives, such as wellbeing and school life.

While parents attend the course, where necessary, children will be safely engaged in a Youth Club, supported by qualified Youth Workers.

Course details:

Location: The Jersey Youth Service

Time: 5pm-7pm

Dates (Mondays):

  • 26 January

Year 10, PSHE Dinner Table Discussions

Thank you to parents of students in Year 10 who have asked for dinner table discussion topics! Year 10 will begin their PSHE sessions this academic year so, with this in mind, their discussion prompts are linked to the topics they will cover in due course: relationships and sex education, citizenship, drugs and alcohol education and mental health strategies. We hope these prove interesting and afford meaningful opportunities for you to build on our discussions in lesson time!

The topic for the next week is: What does an unhealthy relationship look like to you?

Year 11, Guidance Interviews

All Year 11 students have been assigned a guidance interview with a member of the Leadership Group or Sixth Form team. These interviews are currently being held through to 28 January 2026 ahead of subject choices for A Level.

The purpose of the interviews is to discuss subject options and assist students in making informed choices for their post-GCSE pathway. Appointment times have been shared with Tutors. If any student has not received their appointment, they should contact Mr Crill (j.crill@vcj.sch.je) or Mr Townsend (j.townsend@vcj.sch.je).
