Students at Victoria College across all years are being given the unique opportunity in Jersey to exhibit their artwork alongside professional artists and have their work made available for sale.

We have an exciting, new initiative planned at college, which has been launched in January 2023.

Students at Victoria College across all years are being given the unique opportunity in Jersey to exhibit their artwork alongside professional artists and have their work made available for sale.

The ArtEquals programme aims to promote mental wellbeing, encouraging students to take a break from screens and to immerse themselves in creativity.

The art submitted will be judged by a panel and some art will then be selected for exhibition, where it will be displayed next to works by professional Jersey artists – giving them equal standing. All the art on display will be available to purchase and students will be able to keep up to 50% of sale proceeds with the remainder contributing towards the construction of the Victoria College Wellbeing Garden.

If you would like to take part in this exciting opportunity, please register now using the button at the bottom of this page.

Dates to remember

Launch: Monday 23rd January

Hand-in artwork: Monday 17th April

Exhibition: Friday 30th June

Your artwork

  • Create your own masterpiece to be exhibited alongside local professional artists

  • Themes are ‘my happy place’, ‘on my mind’ and ‘creative courage’

  • Any medium, any size- painting, drawing, collage, photography, ceramics, textiles…

  • Sell your work to the highest bidder (& keep up to 50% of the sale price)

  • You can frame your work if you’d like for presentation purposes but it isn’t necessary. If you do frame it though, the frame will form part of the sale at the event.

  • By participating, student confirms that they are happy for their work to be exhibited and sold, with the proceeds going towards the future Victoria College Wellbeing garden.

How to find inspiration

  • The themes are there for you to interpret how you wish – think about where you’re at your happiest, what is important to you or occasions where you showed courage to do something different perhaps

  • Feel free to speak to your art teacher or to pop along to the Art Department on Tuesday lunchtimes to work on your piece

  • There are plenty of local galleries where you can go to see professional artists work such as privateandpublic, ccagalleriesinternational, arthousejersey, thelinkgallery jerseyartscentre or the wonderful theharbourgalleryjersey, which will be opening back in February.  You could even visit the Art Eisteddfod in March. Jersey is a beautiful island, so there is inspiration a plenty just by being outside and visiting your happy place!

  • Why not visit some art material shops to think about which medium you’d like to use – there’s WH Smith, Paperclix, The Harbour Gallery (when it’s open again), the Victoria Art Gallery, Collins, Rachel's Textiles Studio or even Needle Treasures in the market.

The Exhibition

  • This event on Friday 30th June will provide the unique opportunity to exhibit your work in the Great Hall alongside professionals and sell it at a prestigious event

  • The whole school community will be able to come together to celebrate the strong, creative and colourful culture of the College

  • Exhibitors will receive an achievement point & feature in the next edition of ‘The Victorian’

  • Judges’ commendations will be displayed

  • Students receiving the highest bid or highest number of public votes will win a ‘studio visit’ with a local artist.
