de Putron Challenge winners
Victoria College victorious at second Jersey De Putron
Challenge
In the inter-island final held at The Grand Hotel in Jersey on
Monday 28 November 2011 the Victoria College team beat Ladies
College Guernsey 46-37.
The first round of the quiz was conducted in Jersey in two heats
with five schools taking part. Victoria College and Hautlieu School
took a convincing lead over Beaulieu Convent, last year's winners
De La Salle and Jersey College for Girls to go on to compete in the
second heat.
With a competitive, yet supportive atmosphere, the evening
kicked off with a general knowledge round, followed by music, film,
a picture board, Jersey history and culture and then each school's
specialist subject. Victoria College chose British Politics
since 2000 and Hautlieu School, European History 1930-1945.
Other specialist subjects were Rivers of the World, The Films
of Spielberg and The Solar System.
The two schools with the highest scores (Victoria College and
Hautlieu School) then went through to the four-round grand final
starting with Advanced General Knowledge followed by The World and
Environment, then Technology and Communication, and
culminating in a tougher round on their chosen specialist
subjects.
Captaining the Victoria College team was Ralph Spencer-Tucker
who led his comrades Peter Hucker, Hugo Barette and Jack Chown.
Not only did the team pick up the coveted de Putron Challenge
Trophy and the chance to compete against Guernsey but also a cheque
for £1,000. The team have decided to donate some of the money
towards the Sundeep Watts Memorial Fund Foundation.
Hayley de Putron, global head of investor relations at de Putron
Fund Management said: "What a great evening this has been - all the
teams did really well and they had certainly been doing their
homework. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and look forward to it
continuing as an annual event in the schools calendar."
