6th Form and Prefects

Parents of students in the Lower Sixth

Dear Parent

I am delighted to receive your son into the Sixth Form at Victoria College and I trust that he will have a rewarding and fulfilling two years with us.

The Sixth Form curriculum is rich in opportunities and in addition to the four AS Level subjects that your son will be following this year, he will be taking part in an Enrichment Programme on Mondays and will have chosen an Activity on-site for Friday afternoon.  There is a weekly one hour Careers lesson which will help to ensure that he is well prepared for life beyond the College, be that in Higher Education or in employment, and there is a Games /Recreation period in which a wide range of activities is offered to suit those of all abilities and interests.

We have an experienced and dedicated team of Sixth Form Tutors who work under the guidance of Mr Hamel, the Assistant Head with direct responsibility for the Sixth Form.  Should you have any concern at all about your son's progress or welfare during the coming months, please do contact his Tutor or Mr Hamel directly, both of whom will be delighted to help.

In recognition of your son's status as a Sixth Former, I am very happy for him to leave the College site at lunchtime should he so wish, in accordance with the off-site permissions established in the Sixth Form Protocols and issued to you in the last mailing of the Summer Term.  If Mr Hamel does not hear from you to the contrary, I shall assume that you agree that your son should enjoy this privilege. At all other times, however, he should remain on-site unless he requests permission from Mr Hamel for a very specific purpose.

Please note that your son will take part in Activities week at the end of the Summer term.  Students will be given several options which will consist of CCF, assisting with College activities or work experience.

We have a dedicated Sixth Form & Careers Officer and should you wish to contact the College on general points regarding your son, Mrs Suzanne Job is on the direct line of 638266.

I look forward to meeting you once more during the course of this year and in the meantime assure you of my very best wishes and close attention at all times.

With kind regards

Alun Watkins
