Sartorius
This House bears the name of the three sons of Admiral Sir George Sartorius, GCB
Reginald William Sartorius entered College in 1855. He joined the Indian Army and served with great distinction in the Indian Mutiny, the Ashanti War (where he was twice mentioned in despatches) and in the Afghan War in which he won the Victoria Cross. He was later made CMG He retired as Major General in 1897 and died in 1907.
Euston Henry Sartorius entered College in 1855. He joined the Army and, after being mentioned in despatches in the early part of the Afghan War, was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry in an attack at Shahjni. He retired as Major General in 1907 and died in 1925.
George Conrad Sartorius entered College in 1856. He joined the Army and served in the Afghan War where he was mentioned in despatches. After further distinguished service in Egypt and Burma for which he gained the C.B. he became a Pasha in the Turkish Army and served through the Russo-Turkish Army of 1876. He was a famous big-game hunter. He died in 1912.
