Bruce
This House bears the name of William Arthur McCrae Bruce, only
son of Colonel A. McCrae Bruce.
He entered College in 1904. After passing through the
Royal Military College, Sandhurst he joined the Northumberland
Fusiliers and later transferred to the 59th Scinde Rifles. He
landed in France with his regiment in September 1914 and was killed
in action near Givenchy on 19th December 1914.
He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for most
conspicuous bravery. Though severely wounded during a night
attack he rallied his men and fought off enemy counter-attacks
during the whole of the next day.
His Victoria Cross is now in the possession of Victoria
College.
