National Success for Victoria College Sixth Form

The start of a new term has brought national success for Sixth Form students at Victoria College alongside a number of impressive accolades.

ALPS (A level Performance System), a UK based company who work on benchmarking academic standards nationally, listed Victoria College in the top 10% for A level progress. This is a measure of the added value from the quality of teaching at A level, and is based on data collated over a 3 year period. The College was rated against 2996 other schools and colleges across the nation.

Further to this national recognition of outstanding A level progress, the College is proud to announce that Year 13 student, Lysander (Pippin) Mawby, has received an offer from Oxford University to study Physics at Edmund Hall College in September. Lysander is currently studying Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry and is completing his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) on ‘Chaos Theory’.

Alongside studying for A levels, students can choose to take an extra qualification that is recommended by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) as preparation for university – the EPQ. Students choose a topic, carry out research and either write an extended essay or create a unique artefact over the course of Year 12, learning essential research and essay skills. 12 Sixth Form students received their EPQ results this week, with a 100% pass rate, with grades from A*-B.

Mr. Alan Falle, Head of Sixth Form says, “Our recent ALPS, Oxford and EPQ successes are perfect examples of how hardworking and aspirational our students are. With sustained effort they will continue to succeed in all aspects of school life, and I am looking forward to supporting them in doing so.”

Mr. Alun Watkins, Headmaster says, “We are delighted with our recent ALPS Score, and praise is due to our fantastic students and hard-working teachers for their combined efforts in achieving this outstanding certification.

We are extremely proud of the success of our Sixth Form students. We offer our congratulations not only to Pippin on his offer of a place at Oxford, but also our students who have received offers to university or been placed directly into work opportunities.”
