Head of Sixth Form Welcome

Entering the Sixth Form is an exciting time in your educational journey. Your choice of A Level subjects allows you to explore subjects about which you are passionate, as well as helping you to shape your future careers. The Sixth Form team at Victoria College are dedicated to nurturing and supporting you in a community that is challenging and intellectually exciting. Each boy is assigned to a tutor within the school's well developed house structure. The tutor is responsible for the welfare, pastoral care and guidance of his or her tutees. The Head of Sixth Form, in conjunction with the Assistant to the Head of Sixth Form, co-ordinate the pastoral work of tutors and the programme of Higher Education guidance.

 Aims:

  • Promote personal excellence in the pursuit of a wide range of activities, both academic and co-curricular
  • Provide opportunities for self-expression and aesthetic appreciation
  • Develop moral and spiritual values and a respect for other cultures
  •  Encourage students to assess and evaluate their own progression and development, including the skills and aptitudes related to further study/careers
  • Prepare students for adapting to the more liberal atmosphere encountered in university or the workplace

Our combination of outstanding teaching and broad range of co-curricular activities will set you up to become one of the next generation of inspirational leaders. Sixth Form pupils play an important part in assisting with the smooth running of the school: all members of the Lower and Upper Sixth have a responsibility to set good examples to younger boys, whilst election to the position of school or house Prefect and the Sixth Form Council provide more formal ways of providing leadership to the school community.

The Sixth Form at Victoria College is where our pupils develop into young men: confident, well-rounded individuals with inquiring minds and a lifelong love of learning. Our Sixth Formers are expected to be self-confident, enthusiastic and positive. With the skills developed in the Sixth Form they can move on to the next stage of their life knowing they are equipped to succeed in careers of distinction, influence and service. To this end, Sixth Form students have few free study periods; when they are free, they are expected to engage in unsupervised, self-directed work. A capacity for independent learning is the key to success at A level and an important skill to be developed ahead of the transition to undergraduate study.

At Victoria College you will find a stimulating, friendly and supportive environment in which you can develop your skills and interests whilst studying a range of academic subjects to the highest level. Furthermore, should you have a particular interest in, or talent for music, sport, languages, the Combined Cadet Force, drama or many other areas, then you will find a niche here to engage your skills to the highest level.

The vast majority of our Year 11 pupils continue into the Sixth Form but each year we are delighted to accept suitably qualified new students from other institutions. We recognise how new students enrich the Sixth Form and school life in general and are delighted with how well they settle into their new environment, and achieve some tremendous results.
