A (Army) Company
The Army Section is the oldest and largest of the three service
sections. It is established for 120 cadets and can trace its
history back to 1883. The Section is proud to wear the Victoria
College cap badge first worn by the Officer Training Corps of 1903.
Fortunately the rest of the uniform has changed since then
and the current Section is well equipped with current service
issue equipment and Soldier 95' Uniform.
The Section is proud to be affiliated to the Princess of Wales's
Royal Regiment (PWRR) the most senior English infantry Regiment of
the Line. The Section was affiliated to 10th Battalion, Parachute
Regiment (Volunteers) until 2000 when the affiliation was changed
to the PWRR. The Contingent retained the College Cap
Badge but exchanged the navy blue for a PWRR khaki beret. B
(Recruit) Coy however retained the navy blue beret. Cadets
selected for parades or ceremonial occasions may wear the No 2
Dress uniform of the PWRR incorporating a black and gold flash to
identify them as members of Victoria College CCF.
Cadets enjoy a wide variety of training activities particularly
in fieldcraft and skill at
arms. Cadets in Year 10 work towards the Army Proficiency
Certificate (APC)
before continuing on to the Advanced APC in Year 11. Core syllabus
subjects for
both the APC and (ADV) APC include:
- Drill,turnout and military knowledge
- Skill at Arms
- Self reliance and campcraft
- Use of map and compass
- Fieldcraft skills
After successful completion of both the (ADV) APC and a
leadership course a cadet is eligible for promotion to the rank of
Cadet Lance Corporal or Cadet Corporal. Further
promotion to Cadet Sergeant, Colour Sergeant or possibly Cadet
Warrant Officer
depends on merit.
Each year during activities week a central camp is organised by
the Cadet Training Teams for cadets to meet with other cadets,
learn new skills, and take part in military
and adventurous training. Several other off-island opportunities
exist for Army
Section Senior Cadets such as the Dorset Cadet Challenge.
